Product Review: Burt’s Bees Citrus Facial Scrub ….If Only I Could Love It and Be Saved From the Dark Side
I have a confession….I buy a product that not only comes in plastic…but nonrecyclable plastic. And I ….love it. What is this amazing product that leads me to the dark side of the eco-aisle. St. Ives Apricot Scrub. That stuff just rips the grimy day right off of my face.
Burt’s Bees Citrus Facial Scrub 2oz $8.09…Not Sure…Leaning Towards No….Big difference in price from my usual St. Ives Apricot Scrub, about $4 for 6oz, 6x the price. Packaging is great except there was a small plastic seal wrap around the lid rim. Otherwise, it is a very reusable little glass jar, classic Burt’s. The St. Ives really scrubs your face, which I like. The Citrus Scrub is a gentler cleaner and has a much oilier texture so your face feels moisturized after. Not sure if I like that. Call me a freak but I kinda like the super clean feeling of the apricot pits ripping across my face…just has the world’s worst packaging. I will finish the jar of Burt’s and see how I feel about it in a month or so. Not sure this product can stand up to the job. Anyone know a brutal face grater that comes in a glass jar?

I don’t use a face scrub regularly (too cheap and lazy) but occasionally I mix up a salt scrub that works great. Mix salt and olive oil (or nice smelling almond oil) together in a small bowl. You won’t it pretty thick but with enough oil to spread. Just scoop some out and start scrubbing.
It’s really nice to do this all over while standing in an empty tub. Then fill with warm water and soak. You will need to rinse off afterwards and clean the oil out of the tub, but it’s so worth it!
Call me crazier. I use a loofa mitt. Works great to take off the dirt and grease off my face and body. Because of its rough texture, it take a few times to get used to. But it works great for me.
I don’t ever use a scrub on my face so I can’t help you there. Do you use a face wash as well? Do you have any recommendations? I decided to retire the Neutrogena, but I’m not liking any of my “green” options….
Chile…sounds great if I could just finagle that kind of alone time in the bathroom.
Cindy…perfectly reasonable suggestion… for a sane person, which I am not. I have difficulties washing my dishes with any type of sponge-natural or not. Not sure I could use a reusable on my face. Doesn’t it get mildewy in the shower?
Arduous…I use the scrub as my face wash. The ingredients in most scrubs are pretty good…just awful packaging.
hmmm. I don’t wash my face unless there’s something on it (scandalous! i know!) but I recall there’s a good recipe for a rough sounding face scrub in Dinah Falconi’s Earthly Bodies, Heavenly Hair - I haven’t tried the scrub, but everything I’ve made from her book (salves, lotions, balms, etc)has been wonderful. If your library has it, it’d be worth a look.
